FAQ
Who can come?
Anyone who is interested in playing or listening to folk, bluegrass, Celtic or similar music.
Can I bring children?
Yes. Children are welcome. In fact, we haven't had a jam yet without children either sitting in, listening, or just playing around.
Can anyone play along?
Musicians of all skill levels and experience are welcome. Anyone can sit in. And remember, the most important musical instrument one can ever have is one's ears.
Should I bring my own instrument?
Kinda hard to play without one. We ususally have a spare set of bongo drums, harmonica, or a mandolin lying around, but if you think you might want to play, you should bring your own instrument.
Is it loud?
It's pretty much an acoustic affair, without amplification. Every now and then, someone will bring an electric instrument. Whatever the case, it's never too loud. Our objective is to have a friendly jam session, not to liquify brains in the bleachers at Shea Stadium.
Do I have to conform to social norms?
We do maintain a few basic rules. Please wear clothing. Come sober. There is no smoking anywhere in the house (but if you must light up, you can use the patio). Otherwise, just be yourself and have fun!
Should I bring anything?
Just bring yourself, and an instrument if you plan on sitting in. If you have a stool or folding chair you like to use while playing, you may bring that too (but we have plenty of places to sit already). We serve refreshments -- healthy snack foods and beverages. Occasionally, folks bring something to add to the table, but that's entirely optional.
What about parking?
We have lots of room on the driveway, but even so, it often fills up. You may park on Thirsty Lake Road, but please remember this is a private road. Park on the shoulder closest to the house -- on the left side as you enter Thirsty Lake Road. DO NOT PARK ON THE LAWN (this means you too, Mr. S.) except right along the margin of the driveway -- say a few feet on either side. We don't know what load the septic tank will take, but we sure don't want you to have to fish your car out!
Is there a fee?
Nope.
What's with the crockery?
It's supposed to be a JAM pot, OK? Use your imagination. Note: This question has been deprecated but currently is retained for compatibility purposes. If this makes no sense to you, please try a different question. P.S. It WAS a very nice jam pot.
I'm allergic? Have you any pets?
No dogs. No cats. No birds. No reptiles. No rodents. No fish. No goats. No sheep. No pigs. We DO however have an adorable dwarf lop (rabbit). If you are allergic to rabbits you are urged to approach with caution.
